Tabu Tok believe that we have nothing to add to the talanoa about the Dawn Raids that would add value at this point and so this week we share links of stories, news articles and videos that we believe speak to the topic and give broad context not only to the Dawn Raids themselves but also the formal apology from the Government of New Zealand in 2021.
This week we encourage everyone to Tok Stori and Talanoa with others about those that have come before us both living in the now and those who have passed on to spirit. This week there is no written content because we want you to know how important talanoa is in the transmission of our knowledges. We also want you to know how valid talanoa is as a form of knowledge and knowledge transmission. Vinaka vakalevu.
Content Note: Blackbirding was a horrific practice across the Pacific that left many Pacific families with long lasting trauma. We hope that in sharing a small set of information about Blackbirding that it encourages us to all learn a little bit more about our more untold histories. Please take care when reading and also please do further research in order to ensure we as Pacific people know exactly what our ancestors went through in order to honour them as best we can.
CONTENT NOTE : This post discusses punishment and discipline between adults and children.
What comes to mind for you as a Pacific person when we say the words Punishment and Discipline? Is it holding your tears back as you are sanctioned for breathing the wrong way? Is it running from your parents or caregiver as they chase you with a sasa or household item?
